WARREN 6TH GRADERS - ACTION FOR UGANDA’S “INVISIBLE CHILDREN”
Host November 15, 2007 Screening of SUNDAY’S STORY to Raise Awareness

Warren, Connecticut, Nov. 15
- In an effort to educate the public on the plight of Uganda’s children, the Warren 6th Grade Class will host a public screening of the film Sunday’s Story at 7:00pm on Nov. 15, in the Warren School Gym, 21 Sackett Hill Road, in Warren CT. Sunday is a 15 year-old boy being raised in a Ugandan Internal Displacement Camp (IDP) to avoid abduction by the “Lord‘s Resistance Army“ (LRA) and forced into warfare. The 6th Graders, armed with their knowledge of the “Invisible Children” of Uganda, will take questions after the film in hopes of educating the public, elevating awareness and raising financial support for their sister school, Atanga in Uganda, through the organization Schools for Schools.

Warren School 6th Graders were called to action when they began researching the plight of Uganda’s “Invisible Children”. While tucked away in the bucolic “Litchfield Hills”, they read of the horrors of thousands of children leaving their homes each night to wander the streets, sleep huddled together in hiding, to avoid abduction by the rebel LRA and forced to become child soldiers.

More research revealed to the Warren 6th Graders, that the Ugandan government’s answer to this horrific problem was to forcibly relocate entire families into Internal Displacement Camps (IDPs). They also learned that in the midst of the fear and sadness, the Ugandan children just wanted to go to school.

All donations raised for Schools for Schools during the month of November 2007 will be matched by Guess, Inc.. The Warren 6th Graders are planning future fundraising activities to donate directly to the Atanga school, such as the January 19, 2008 “Day Without Desks” where they will spend the entire day sitting on the floor, a small and symbolic sacrifice, and will be accepting pledges and sponsorships for this event.

It is also the hope of the Warren 6th Graders that other schools will join forces with them and Schools for Schools to help in their effort to raise funds for the “Invisible Children” of Uganda.
