Building Committee Update
The Building Committee reviewed draft drawings for the proposed town office building to be constructed on town-owned property off Cemetery Road at its meeting on May 26. The proposed building would have one level with a full basement for future use and a possible loft for some storage.
The committee has been working with the architectural firm of Ames and Whitaker of Waterbury on a floor plan design that will provide for the office needs of the town now and for some time into the future. The floor plan includes space for land use offices, town clerk and tax collector, selectmen, registrars and information technology. It includes space for eventual social services and future state trooper. There is a large meeting room for approximately 50 people which will be used for small scale meetings such as planning and zoning meetings. All town meetings and voting would continue to take place at the old town hall which will become a community center.
The dimensions of the building have been staked out at the site and the wetlands have been flagged. An engineer will be visiting the site shortly to determine what will be needed for a septic system and well.
When the engineering and architectural drawings are complete, a cost projection will be done and then the project will be ready to present to a town meeting for voter consideration. No date has been set for the town meeting.
